First time driving a Tesla in Slovenia? This guide covers the practical things you'll want to know — from getting comfortable with the car to planning charging stops and navigating Slovenian roads.
GETTING STARTED WITH THE TESLA MODEL 3
The Tesla Model 3 has no key in the traditional sense. We'll walk you through the Tesla app and provide a card key for backup. To start driving: press the brake, put it in Drive using the touchscreen or gear stalk, and go. That's genuinely all there is to it.
- No ignition button — car is always "on" when you sit down
- Gear selection via the center console stalk
- All controls through the 15.4" touchscreen
- One-pedal driving via regenerative braking (optional)
AUTOPILOT — HOW TO USE IT IN SLOVENIA
Autopilot is standard on all rentals. On Slovenian motorways, pull the gear stalk toward you twice to activate. The car will maintain lane position and following distance. You must keep hands on or near the wheel — it will prompt you if you don't. Traffic-Aware Cruise Control works even on roads where full Autopilot isn't active.
Note: Autopilot is a driver assistance feature. You remain responsible for safe driving at all times.
CHARGING IN SLOVENIA
Slovenia has Tesla Superchargers in Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Koper, and other locations. To find them: tap the charging bolt icon on the map screen. The car will show nearby stations, current stall availability, and estimated charging time.
Charging costs at Superchargers are based on kWh or per minute, depending on station type. These costs are billed separately based on actual usage and settled when you return the car.
- Typical full charge: 10–15€
- 20-minute top-up adds roughly 200 km
- Navigation plans charging stops on long routes automatically
DRIVING AROUND SLOVENIA
Slovenia has excellent roads. The main motorway network (A1, A2) connects Ljubljana to all major cities. For scenic drives, the Vršič Pass and the Soča Valley roads are highlights — be aware that mountain roads have tight turns, but the Tesla handles them well with its low center of gravity.
A note on road tolls: Slovenia uses an e-vignette system for motorways. Your rental includes an active vignette — you don't need to purchase one separately. Confirm this at pickup.
CROSS-BORDER TRAVEL
Travel to Croatia, Austria, and Italy is included at no extra charge. If you're crossing into Croatia, note that Croatia's Supercharger coverage is good in major cities (Zagreb, Split, Rijeka). For Austria and Italy, Supercharger coverage is excellent throughout.

Check Availability →Do I need a special license for a Tesla?
No. A standard Category B driving license is all you need. Tesla Model 3 is an automatic — no special EV license required anywhere in Europe.
What happens if I run out of charge?
In practice this is very unlikely — the car gives you multiple low-battery warnings and navigation actively routes you to chargers. If it does happen, contact us and we'll assist.
ROAD CONDITIONS AND ROUTES IN SLOVENIA
Slovenia's motorway network (A1, A2) is modern and well-maintained. Speed limits are 130 km/h on motorways, 90 km/h on regional roads, and 50 km/h in built-up areas. The Tesla's navigation respects Slovenian speed limits and the Driver Profile saves your preferred settings between sessions.
Mountain roads to destinations like Vršič Pass (highest mountain pass in Slovenia) are narrow with steep curves — the Tesla handles them well, but take your time. Regenerative braking is particularly useful on mountain descents.
TOLLS AND VIGNETTE
Slovenia uses an e-vignette system for motorway driving. Your rental includes an active vignette — you do not need to purchase one. For cross-border travel, Croatia uses a pay-per-use toll system (booths accept cards), and the Tesla navigation will route you through them.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is there a Supercharger near Ljubljana Airport?
Yes. There is a Tesla Supercharger in Ljubljana, roughly 15 minutes from the airport. The car arrives fully charged, so you won't need it immediately on arrival.
What if I get a flat tire?
The Tesla Model 3 does not include a spare tire. It comes with a tire sealant kit for minor punctures. For major issues, contact us via WhatsApp and we'll assist with next steps.
Can I use Autopilot on Slovenian roads?
Traffic-Aware Cruise Control works on most roads. Full Autopilot (autosteer) works on motorways and many dual carriageways. The car indicates when features are available based on road type.
